Our buying view

Shortlist the WiiM Amp when you want one compact stereo setup for your existing passive speakers, TV and music streaming.

Start with the speakers you already own.

Look up your speakers’ model and impedance, then compare them with the Amp’s supported loads. Inspect old speaker cables and terminals before reusing them. Keeping a working pair of speakers can make sense; buying a new amplifier without checking them first can turn a simple upgrade into another shopping project.

WiiM lists 60 watts per channel at 8 ohms and 120 watts at 4 ohms. These are manufacturer ratings, not our measurements or a promise about loudness in your room. WiiM Amp specifications (opens in a new tab)

Make sure the TV can send stereo PCM.

The Amp accepts HDMI ARC and optical TV audio in Stereo PCM. It does not decode Dolby Digital or DTS and does not support eARC. Use the TV’s ARC-labeled port and check its PCM output and CEC/ARC settings. WiiM TV compatibility information (opens in a new tab)

Check the TV manual for the sources you actually watch, including connected consoles or streaming boxes. If you cannot make that setup output stereo PCM, resolve that compatibility question before buying. A stereo amplifier is not a replacement for a surround-sound receiver when discrete surround channels are your goal.

For everyday use, decide whether your TV remote needs to control volume. Test that behavior during your return window; do not assume every TV handles controls in the same way.

Check your usual app and listening habits.

The original Amp supports AirPlay 2 reception, Google Cast, Spotify Connect and TIDAL Connect. AirPlay is receiver-only: it cannot transmit its own audio to other AirPlay speakers. Physical-input multiroom playback needs a WiiM-device group. WiiM streaming and multiroom information (opens in a new tab)

Before buying, confirm that your preferred service works in your region and with your subscription. Think about who will control playback, where the amplifier will sit and whether the home network is reliable in that location. A convenient setup should fit the way the household already listens.

A turntable may need one more box.

There is no built-in phono preamp. Use a turntable with a suitable built-in phono preamp or an external phono preamp into the Amp’s line input. WiiM turntable guidance (opens in a new tab)

Check your turntable’s output setting before connecting it. Include any required preamp and cables in the total budget. If your current system already does everything you need, compare the convenience of this change with the cost of replacing it.

Your before-you-buy checklist

  • Confirm this is the original WiiM Amp and the exact ASIN above.
  • Verify the passive speakers’ impedance and wiring requirements.
  • Check ARC or optical connectivity and stereo PCM output on the TV.
  • Confirm your streaming app, region and subscription requirements.
  • Budget for speaker cable or a phono preamp if your setup needs them.
  • Read the seller’s return terms before making the change.
